As seasoned golf tour operators specializing in authentic Scottish golf experiences, we consider a Fife Golf Trip to be the pinnacle of any golfer’s bucket list. This historic region, home to the “Home of Golf” in St Andrews, offers an unparalleled concentration of world-class links courses that we’re privileged to share with our clients year after year.
When planning your Golf trip to Fife, you’ll discover why this coastal kingdom has captivated golfers for centuries. The area boasts an incredible density of championship courses, with two courses ranked in Scotland’s top 10, showcasing the exceptional quality that defines golf in Fife.
Day 1 Lundin
Having arrived into Edinburgh you will make the short trip to Lundin for the first round of your Fife Golf Tour. The course remains largely as it was some 100 years ago. The first five holes are in classic links tradition proceeding from the Clubhouse to the Mile Dyke. Players then cross the now extinct railway line and play the nine ‘newer’ (1908) James Braid designed holes. Back across the railway, the last four holes revert to pure links. Not long by modern standards, Lundin nonetheless presents a thorough test of the golfer’s skills.
Day 2 Panmure
The famous Old Tom Morris and James Braid designed links requires both strategy and skill to navigate and negotiate the sandhills forged by nature. In 1953 Ben Hogan won his one and only Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Links. This would be his final major victory and the only time he would ever visit Scotland. The man known as the ‘Wee Ice Mon’ by the Scots cemented his legendary reputation thanks to the help of Panmure Golf Club. The great Hogan spent two weeks at Panmure, accompanied only by his caddy, Cecil Timms to acclimatise to the terrain of links golf and to acquaint himself with the smaller 1.62 inch British ball.
Day 3 Kingsbarns
One of the newest courses on this Fife Golf Itinerary is Kingsbarns, Known for its sweeping sea views and undulating fairways, the course offers a true links experience with a challenging layout that tests golfers of all skill levels. Each hole is designed to showcase the rugged beauty of the North Sea coastline, creating a memorable round that celebrates both the sport and the scenic splendor of Scottish golf.
Day 4 Carnoustie
Host to The Open Championship 8 x times Carnoustie is a big natural seaside links and is widely considered to be one of the world’s most difficult golf courses. Although Carnoustie is not the most scenic links compared to others on the Itinerary it is a masterpiece in terms of design and widely regarded as one of the toughest test of golf on earth and certainly your toughest test on this Fife Golf Trip
Day 5 St. Andrews Castle Course
What’s a Fife Golf Itinerary without St. Andrews !, Set on a rugged cliff-top with spectacular views over St Andrews, The Castle Course offers a highly memorable golfing experience. The Castle course is the newest member of St Andrews Links Trust’s portfolio. Laid out on a cliff top with more than a mile of waterfront overlooking the town, the Castle was constructed by David McLay Kidd and his DMK design company. Lead shaper, Mick McShane, deserves much credit for turning featureless farmland (described as a “hillside of rotten rock”) into what is now a superb golf course, in much the same way as he did at nearby Kingsbarns.
Day 6 St. Andrews Old Course (Ballot entry)
Today we will enter your group in the ballot at St. Andrews for a chance to play at The Home of Golf. The Old course is as much about the atmosphere & aura you feel as it is about the course design and specific holes, No other course on earth can match the feeling you get when tee it up on the first at The Old course. Once you get through that nerve wrecking first tee the Old course is incredibly enjoyable to play as it is quite generous off the tee for the most part as long as you avoid the fairway bunker throughout.
Day 7 Dumbarnie
Dumbarnie Links is not typical of most links in that the holes don’t go out and back. The site is 345 acres and holes are directed to many points on the compass. No consecutive holes follow the same direction so a player will be tested with differing wind directions from hole to hole. With its spectacular setting around the golden sands of Largo Bay on Fife’s historic southern coastline, Dumbarnie Links offers not only breath-taking views across the Firth of Forth, but a modern challenge that every true lover of the purest form of our ancient game cannot afford to miss.
